COMING SOON: Muay Thai Traditional kickboxing from Thailand has been recognized as one of the most effective and powerful forms of kickboxing ever created. Using kicks, punches, knees and elbows, Thai boxers create powerful blows to debilitate their opponent. Thai boxing is rooted in history and tradition which dates back to the 1600’s and has flourished into the national sport in Thailand. Class formats include bag work, pad work with a partner and shadow boxing to improve form and technique. Sparring is not required and is taught in separate classes from the beginner classes for those who do not wish to spar. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Developed by the Gracie families, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu focuses on defeating a larger opponent with leverage, balance and timing as opposed to brute strength. Since 90% of all fights eventually come down to the ground, the Gracie’s perfected a system of techniques and training that allow a smaller weaker person to defeat their opponent by using superior ground position, leveraging joint locks and chokes. It is an total body workout incorporating strength, core and cardiovascular training while at the same time preparing for realistic self-defense situations. Class format is working on a padded surface with a partner or by yourself performing conditioning exercises. Mixed Martial Arts MMA as it is commonly referred to is a compilation of striking, takedown, wrestling and submission techniques to beat an opponent. The sport of MMA has grown greatly in the last decade to become a leading sport today. While techniques and schools vary the training includes techniques and cross training in Boxing, Wrestling (Greco-Roman and Freestyle), Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing.
